Joe Miller is the RE/MAX world Long Drive champion for 2010.[1] He is the first European to ever win the championships [2] and is a sign of the sports growth on a global scale. At 6 ft 4 and 19 stone this giant of a man holds the world record for ball speed at 225 mph [3] on the way to his 2010 triumph. Winning the championships with a 414-yard strike [4] and a broken toe as a result Joe walked away with the tournament. Jamie Sadlowski has become one of Joe's toughest opponent in the sport whilst coming up with drives of 388 yards in the championships although this year his efforts proved costly. Joe also collected the £150,000 prize package [5] for his efforts until he will defend his title again in Mesquite, Nevada in November 2011.
Currently sponsored by Krank Golf, Miller uses the Rage black and white driver[6] when playing tournaments across the world, being currently based at The Shire London golf club he uses these facilities to aid his needs whilst also working as a part time gym trainer.[7] Joe's success have been a testament to his work ethic in the gym and on the driving range, being 25 it seems this athlete has many years left in him and whilst his swing differs from the norms of the sport the effectiveness of it is unchallenged.
Long Drive is a growing sport where success can be achieved by the athlete who can drive the golf ball the furthest, originally it was a small base of golfers who participated in the sport worldwide but as the sport has worn on more athletes are now beginning to become involved with the likes of ESPN [8] and Eurosport having TV rights for certain tournaments in the sport. At the top of the sports athletes can expect a professional status attending various tournaments, events and exhibitions worldwide.
